Congresswoman Candice Miller's Endorsement

The 2006 election was a difficult one for Republicans across America and in particular here in the Midwest. One needs only look at neighboring states like Pennsylvania where we lost four U.S. House seats, Indiana - 3 seats, Ohio - 1 seat, Wisconsin - 1 seat, Minnesota 1 seat, Iowa - 1 seat and Kentucky -- 1 seat. 12 Republican seats lost to Democrats in seven neighboring states. Yet here in Michigan we were successful in defending all nine of our incumbent seats in the face of a national tidal wave.

Much of the credit for our success goes to our State Republican Chairman Saul Anuzis who did a great job on so many levels. He helped define the differences between our party and the Democrats. He helped raise unprecedented sums of money to assist our candidates and build our grassroots network. And he activated that network to turn out the vote for our candidates.

As a lifelong sailor I understand that anyone can navigate calm seas, but a true leader can be judged by how they handle stormy conditions. After watching him navigate the troubled waters of 2006 I trust Saul at the helm of our state party.
